Diseño de canales abiertos

FOREWORD

Throughout history human beings have always taken advantage of water as a source for diverse uses of all kinds. Hydraulic engineering has specifically served to supply water and arbitrate protection measures against floods, storms, polluting processes, among others.

In this engineering treaty you can find the basic principles of open channel hydraulics and an easy-to-understand academic guide to undertake the design of civil works for transporting water in free sheets, such as river and agricultural systems, sewage networks and other Applications.

In the first part you will find a study of the fundamental equations that govern the uniform flow of water. The algebraic expressions are presented with a brief mathematical development, which strengthens the reader’s knowledge.

In a consecutive way, the calculation methods to determine the normal draft are presented, as well as the design criteria of rigid contour channels and erodible contour, based on optimal hydraulic sections and maximum permissible speeds, respectively.

Finally, the non-uniform flow in hydraulic channels is addressed through the development of concepts such as the specific energy of a section, the critical tension and slope and the analysis of free surfaces.

The academic approach of the work can be summarized in the following treaties: uniform flow in channels, non-uniform flow in channels and problems of application. A comprehensive and practical summary to consolidate and improve the professional technical work in this branch of engineering.

The idea of the author is to share their experiences and contribute in the construction of designs of hydraulic works for the transport of water in free sheet.

I hope modestly that I have fulfilled my mission and academic zeal.
